Hi and I hope everything is doing ok in these crazy times. For guitarists out there, here’s the link to my latest youtube tuition video ‘Colourful Open String Chords’.
I hope you enjoy it! Please like, share and subscribe.
Hi and I hope you are doing well. After gigging all my adult life, it’s really strange to not have performed live for over five months and currently no sign of a return. I’ve been doing videos for my youtube channel, performance and tuition videos, and I am enjoying that. I will all also be recording regular solo and duet performances for my channel. I also participated in the Sligo Jazz Project - Virtually, some tuition videos and a performance with fellow guitarist Nigel Clark. A big shout out to Eddie Lee and his team who continuously do an amazing job.
But nothing compares to playing to a live audience. The preparation, the journey to the venue, arriving, meeting fellow musicians and all that goes with that, the set up, the soundcheck…and this is all before the performance. Then the performance…Afterwards chatting with audience members and fellow musicians. Then looking forward to the next one. Magic!
Stay well, stay safe. H

Yes , very strange times upon us! I hope everyone is managing to stay health, both physically and mentally. I have been enjoying daily walks to help stay afloat and the weather, for Ireland, has been exceptionally good. All gigs/concerts are cancelled as was my plans to record a new project in June, among other things. All hopefully for the future…
On a more positive note though, it’s a good time to explore all things creative and maybe other things we had intended to do but never really had the time. I’ve begun putting together a Youtube channel. I’ve added some performance videos and I will be uploading some tutorial and solo guitar videos soon. I have also been working on some arrangements for the next recording project. I guess it’s nice to do this stuff with little or no distractions.
I have also been doing some online teaching and appearing on some online shows. My great friend David O’Rourke is hosting a “Daily Blast” live from New Jersey every evening at 9pm (Irishtime) on Facebook. I’ve really enjoyed appearing on there with some terrific guests including Sheryl Bailey, Phil Robson, Dave Whyte, Rodney Jones, Peter Bernstein and Michael Weiss. On Thursday 21st May I’ll be joining the great guitarist and friend John Stowell on the show. I also appeared as featured guest on the USOM webinar series “ Guitar Night” (episode three) with host Daniel Jacobsen.
I’ve also had great renewed interest in my book The Guitar Chord Doctor. It is available to purchase on the GCD page here.
Stay well and stay safe!

It was great to hook up with pianist friend of mine Fintan O’Neill for a duo concert at the beautiful and historic St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin. Fintan is a native of Dublin and longtime resident of New York. It was wonderful to play together in such a stunning setting and as part of Heritage Week.
Had a great week teaching and performing at Sligo Jazz Project 2019. So many great people and a particularly friendly and uplifting atmosphere. It was so enjoyable to perform with so many great musicians, John Goldsby, Paul Booth, Paul Clarvis, Linley Hamilton, Ghatam Giradhir Udupa, Malcolm Edmonstone, Scott Flanigan and Cathal Roche.
A favourite of mine was the guitar trio with Ricardo Bertuzzi and Mike Nielsen. Wonderful music and camaraderie. I’d really recommend this event to people of any age and interested in music. I hope to see you all at SJP 2020!
