I'm delighted to be playing an upcoming six week residency at Neary's, Chatham St, Dublin 2. It's a guitar duo with fellow Dubliner Dave Whyte. Looking forward to playing the Derry Jazz Festival with the fantastic vocalist Aoife Doyle at Bennigans on Friday May 4th. On Saturday 6th there are two duo gigs at the Bray jazz Festival (details to come). On Sunday May 6th i'm back in Derry to play with the Darren Beckett Organ Trio w/ Darren on drums, Scott Flanigan on organ and yours truly on guitar.
Darren played on my debut CD "Yes Indeed" along with James Williams and Peter Washington in 1997 in New York and I am really looking forward to doing it again in Derry.

Cello Ireland, HB Quartet and Gerry Leonard at the Sugar Club
We had a really enjoyable night at the Sugar Club on Wednesday 22nd November. A full house and a wonderful and diverse night of music. It was a treat to play once again with my quintet and Cello Ireland (Una Ni Chanain, Ailbhe McDonagh, Lioba Petrie and Katie Turtell). Great playing by all on the night
It was also a great pleasure to play with guitarist Gerry Leonard and have him play on one of my tunes.

Gigs at Cork Jazz and in Czech Republic
I had a wonderful time at the Cork Jazz Festival. A bunch of gigs and all enjoyable. It was great to hook up with Honor Heffernan again for a bunch of mini gigs in Kinsale on the Friday night and Saturday morning.
Next was the Ella and Joe set with Stella Bass at the Ronnie Scott Room at the Metropole. Then a couple of "jamming" type gigs with Derek O'Connor, Paul Dunlea, Ryan Quigley and Paul Booth that were great fun.
A few days later I travelled to Prague on the invitation of Czech guitarist Libor Smoldas. Had a really nice time doing a workshop and some gigs with some great local musicians. A beautiful city and a really vibrant jazz scene. Looking forward to the next visit.
Bowie to Buckley: a world Apart rescheduled due to Storm Ophelia
Our concert at the Sugar Club has been rescheduled for Wednesday 22nd of November @ 8pm. It will be at the Sugar Club and will feature Cello Ireland with former David Bowie guitarist Gerry Leonard and the Hugh Buckley Group (w/Michael Buckley, Phil Ware, Dan Bodwell and Dominic Mullan).
It will feature music by Bowie, Hugh Buckley and Arvo Part.
Galway Jazz Festival
Looking forward this weekend to performing at the Galway Jazz Festival. I'll be playing with the quartet and Cello Ireland at the Lally Theatre on Saturday night at 8pm. We'll be performing my original tunes with string arrangement by Fiachra Trench.
On Sunday afternoon I'll be performing duo with the fantastic vocalist/composer Aoife Doyle at Il Vicolo at 4pm. Later at 7pm I'll be joining the Paul O'Driscoll Group at the same venue.

Delighted to be doing two performances with Roddy Doyle to promote his new book "Smile". I'll be accompanying him as he reads excerpts from the book. Monday 11th September at Teelings Distillery, Dublin and the Ulster Museum, Belfast on the 13th September.

Gigs in Spain, "Down with Jazz"...
I had a really nice time playing in Gijon, Spain with local musicians Felix Morales (drs), Jose Ramon Feito (pno) and Tony Cruz (bs). A great vibe all round and hopefully we can do it all again soon.

Recent gigs London, Belfast, Ards
Had a great time at the Pheasantry, Pizza Express playing with vocalist Stella Bass, Phil Ware and great London based rhythm section of Dave Green and Steve Brown. The previous night Stella and I played duo at the Island Arts Centre as part of our "Ella and Joe" series.
On Saturday I had a very pleasant afternoon workshop at Ards international Guitar Festival in the company of guitarist Ronnie Greer. A wonderful venue and really engaged and friendly audience made for a most enjoyable couple of hours.
On Sunday I played my last engagement under my own name at the iconic Dublin venue JJ's. I'll seriously miss playing there after so many wonderful nights and years there.
Hugh Buckley Group and Cello Ireland
Had a great time recently performing with Cello Ireland and string arrangements by Fiachra Trench. The group played the "Spike" Cello Festival in February and also recorded a session for RTE Lyric's "Purple Vespertine". I'm really excited about performing this music again in 2017.
"Ella and Joe"
"Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass". 2017 is the hundredth anniversary of the birth of the great Ella Fitzgerald. I'm delighted to be performing a series of concerts throughout the year with songstress Stella Bass celebrating this event. We've be performing in duo setting ala "Ella and Joe" and playing repertoire from there studio recordings and live shows.

Cork Jazz Festival
I had a great time at the Cork Jazz Festival 2016 performing with the wonderful New York based guitarist Sheryl Bailey w/Stephen Keogh and Mark Hodgson at the Triskel Arts Centre. Also a really fun gig with Isotope at Coughlans, a really fantastic small venue with a great vibe.
Hugh Buckley Group with Cello Ireland and other upcoming events
Really excited and honoured to be performing this upcoming project with Cello Ireland. On the 5th October I'll be playing a number of my compositions with strings arranged by the wonderful Fiachra Trench. This is something I have thought of doing for some time and many thanks to Una Ni Chainan of Cello Ireland for making it happen. We will perform at the Bello Bar on the 5th October with a view to to further performances in Spring 2017.
On 23rd September the DCJO will be appearing at the Limerick Jazz Festival with Norma Winstone and Claire Daly.
I am also looking forward to playing Limerick Jazz Festival with the cream of Irish Jazz guitar, Dave O'Rourke, Tommy Halferty and Joe O'Callaghan. (September 25th)

Irish Jazz Festivals
Just back from playing the wonderful Sligo Jazz Project. Great to see that this music is alive and well in Ireland. There are a number of Jazz Festivals happening over the next few months and hats off to all the organisers who run these events, most often with little or no funding. I'll be playing the Howth Jazz Festival this weekend, Limerick Jazz Festival in September and in October, the Galway and Cork jazz Festivals. (see "gigs' for more details)
